Hardware systems & test  //  Open to Summer 2027

GurnitChopra

Second-year Computer Engineering (Co-op) at McMaster, working toward hardware systems design, test and verification. I like the layer where sensors, circuits and firmware have to agree with each other, and the part where you prove that they do.

Embedded Systems & Controls Software Engineer

McMaster Exoskeleton · Hamilton, ON (On site)
  • Student design team building a wearable assistive exoskeleton for the international ACE competition.
  • Firmware for the exo's sensing and actuation loop: an STM32 (Nucleo-F446RE, Cortex-M4F) reads LSM6DSO32 joint IMUs and commands CubeMars AK70-9 actuators over CAN.
  • Working on moving the IMU link from I²C to 4-wire SPI.

Electrical Engineer

McMaster RoboMaster · Hamilton, ON (On site)
  • Student team designing and building robots for DJI's international RoboMaster University competition.
  • Moved over from the computer vision subteam to work on the robots' electrical systems.
  • The subteam is starting on custom PCB design, and I'm ramping up through an Altium Designer PCB course alongside it.

Co-Founder

McMaster Low Latency Labs (ML³) · Hamilton, ON (On site)
  • Student club building low-latency, high-performance computing systems across hardware and software.
  • Co-founded the club, and set to lead its FPGA design subteam when it launches in Winter 2027.
  • Building the foundations for that role now through Harris & Harris and Merrick's Getting Started with FPGAs: HDL, sequential logic, and the full simulation, synthesis and place-and-route flow.

Technical Training Developer

ICC Evaluation Service — Electrical Division · Brea, CA (Remote)
  • Subsidiary of the International Code Council that evaluates building and electrical products for code compliance.
  • Authored 26 ISO/IEC 17020 field evaluation training modules for electrical equipment, each 40+ scripted slides.
  • Wrote pass/fail test training on hi-pot, insulation resistance, ground bond and leakage current, plus construction checks like clearance and creepage.
  • Mapped UL, CSA C22.2, NFPA 70/790/791 and CEC requirements to inspection criteria for 14 equipment categories, from battery energy storage to hazardous-location equipment.

Software Engineering Intern

Hermes AI (Atticus.AI) · Toronto, ON (Remote)
  • Early-stage Canadian startup building an AI platform for legal work.
  • Shipped production features to a legal AI platform with real clients: a vertical sidebar navigation migration, a Clear Chat feature, and chat-history scoping fixes across frontend and backend.
  • Worked in Python, FastAPI, React and TypeScript inside a real Git/GitHub review loop.
  • Fixed a Windows and Python 3.13 setup failure by unpinning LangChain to 0.3.x.

Computer Vision Engineer

McMaster RoboMaster · Hamilton, ON (On site)
  • Vision subteam behind the robots' auto-aim, on the same RoboMaster competition team.
  • Ran live test sessions on the robot's auto-aim system, measuring a 70% hit rate on moving targets.
  • Collected match and test footage for training, supporting a ~20% year-over-year gain in opponent detection.

Driver profile

I got into engineering the way a lot of people get into cars: wanting to know what's underneath. Formula 1 is where that never wore off, since a tenth of a second there is a design decision someone made months earlier.

Off the bench I'm in Forza tuning things that don't need tuning, or out on a trail on the bike.
